Creating and maintaining a blog takes a lot of sweat and sometimes even tears. All that work can be entirely wiped out and lost forever; websites get hacked and hosting accounts malfunction at times, which may cause a loss of valuable data. Backing up your work becomes extremely important. One essential element of a WordPress blog that should frequently be backed up is the database associated with the particular instance of WordPress.
An easy way to accomplish this is via a plugin called WP Database Plugin. I personally find the plugin to be of great use. It’s free and easy to configure. I usually have the plugin set to send me an email with the backup file as an attachment, but it can also be configured to save the file to your computer or to a location on a server.
The plugin offers two ways to perform a database backup; you can either complete the operation immediately, or schedule repetitive backups to occur once hourly, twice daily, once daily, or once weekly. What I like to do is set it to email me a backup file once a day. By doing this, I know that I’m covered should I wake up one day and find that my database went AWOL.
